The theme for this week’s photo challenge over at WordPress’s daily post is resolved. Check it out:

The new year just rolled around and everyone is posting about their plans and goals. I usually do the same thing… and it lasts about a week. Maybe a month.
I’m so allergic to change! I want things to be different (lose weight, write a best selling novel) but I don’t want to do anything differently (exercise, write more). I know, I know. I’m crazy. I want to walk on my treadmill everyday and find time to write everyday. Really, I do. But I still have toddlers to feed and a house to protect from them. There’s just not enough time!!
Ugh. So, after a week or so, I usually give up trying to change and just go back to the way I’m used to doing things. My treadmill collects dust and I check my facebook while the kids are locked, uh, secure, in their high chairs eating. I might get an hour or so to write while they nap, after I take my shower and straighten up the house from their morning adventures. It’s a vicious cycle, people. Anyway, I’ve decided if I’m going to keep up with my walking and writing this year, I need to somehow decrease the time it takes to do these activities so that it fits into my busy schedule.
And, voila!
This is what I came up with. I took an extra shelf from a bookcase we already had and propped it across the hand rails of the treadmill. I wake up an hour earlier than I used to. I walk at 2 MPH, so that I don’t trip all over myself, and write for 30 minutes. AT THE SAME TIME!! Usually I write nonsense. I just ramble on and on about what I’m planning, in my day-to-day and writing lives. Today, I’m writing this post. If I have a project with an upcoming deadline, I would probably work on that. Then, I get my shower out of the way before I have to get my oldest son up for school. That way, when the toddlers are napping later, I’ll have even more uninterrupted time for writing, or even reading, if I’m feeling self-indulgent.
I’ve got my MacBook to write on, some water to drink (can you tell that I ♥ hearts?), and my journal/pen in case I want to look over ideas I’ve had previously. And usually my phone is sitting next to my water. It has a cool Writing.com prompts app that I can use for inspiration when I don’t have anything else to work on.
So, this is how I plan to stay resolved to walk and write most everyday. I’m sure I’ll take a day off every now and again, and I’ve been considering doing yoga once a week, but I’m not sure yet.
What are your goals/plans/resolutions for the new year? How do you plan to stay resolved? Got any suggestions for a beginner yoga program? Let me know!! I love to hear from you. Interaction is what life is all about.

Go go for it. Nice idea. Thanks for the pingback.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thanks for visiting!
I’ve only missed one Sunday so far this year, so I’ve got high hopes. I really like it, and it makes me feel pretty accomplished first thing in the morning, which is awesome!
I can’t believe you can actually use the Mac while on the tread! I’d get seasick 🙂
I walk really slow, so it’s not bad at all. 😉
This is so great! My treadmill has sloped side bars but I may need to revisit whether setting something up like this is possible!! And then perhaps I will have to resolve that any time spent reading others’ blogs has to be while on the treadmill — think of all the exercise I could get 🙂 ~ Kat
That is a great idea! Good luck and I hope it works out.
Thanks for stopping by.
How clever you are! I love the invention of walking & writing at the same time…been wanting to invest in a treadmill–how do you like yours?
Thanks for the shout out & happy new year! 🙂
I actually love it! I feel so accomplished when I get done. Thanks for stopping by!
What?!? Walking and writing?! I would have crashed and ended up in the wall behind me 😀
Nah, it’s not too bad. I walk pretty slow. 😉
That’s a MacGuyer moment if I ever saw one! Power to your elbow, say I. No one can accuse you of not trying.
Ha! It works pretty well, actually. And I like it, so that’s a big plus!
that’s serious multi-tasking and I say good for you.
Thanks, Lynne!!
Good for you! I love that you are so handy and can just get everything set up yourself using things you already own. I’m also impressed that you are waking up extra early! Ugh, that is one thing I dread when the baby arrives. 🙂
Thanks! Hopefully, you’ll get lucky and the baby will sleep through the night after the first week. 😉

This has been a plan of mine, too. But I thought of an excercise bike – it seems too difficult to walk AND work with photo editing and layout simultaneously! On TV I actually saw one of the Nobel Prize winners walking on a treadmill connected with his desk, while he was working.
Yes, it would be difficult for detailed photo editing. Not so bad for just typing. And I walk pretty slow, so that helps, too. 🙂
That’s pretty cool about the Nobel Prize winner. I’d like to see that.
[…] gets up. It’s also when I get my writing done. You can see how I do that on my previous post: Resolved, if you’re interested. Otherwise, I just move it when I’m chasing […]
